Living Memorial Program Features an Everlasting Tribute

The Honor Gift and Living Memorial Program, offered by the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER), assists donors to FCER’s research and education efforts by arranging a living tribute to a loved one or a commemoration of an event. The program helps donors when the need to “do something” arises, such as remembering the passing of someone dear, or acknowledging a joyous event such as a birth, anniversary or wedding. Under the program, one dollar of the gift goes toward the planting of a tree in the Dr. Ralph Schmidt Memorial Forests, a living tribute which helps to reforest designated areas in Dr. Schmidt’s home state of Oregon that are protected and never logged, lending a positive addition to the environment.

“FCER is very proud to offer this program, which not only benefits the environment, but allows participants the opportunity to honor individuals with a living memorial while contributing much-needed donations for research and education,” Charles R. Herring, DC, FCER President, said. “FCER has contracted with the family of Ralph Schmidt, DC, a former FCER president and trustee as well as environmentalist, to support reforestation. Through state mandate, these trees planted as a result of this program can never be logged and therefore become an everlasting tribute of the gift,” he added.

On receipt of the gift, FCER sends a card to the designated person of the donor’s choice, notifying them about the gift (without disclosing the amount) and that a tree is to be planted. Donors may decline the tree planting provision. FCER also sends a letter acknowledging the tax-deductible gift.

Honor Gift and Living Memorial Program donations may be made online at the FCER web site. Also, a supply of professionally produced pamphlets outlining this everlasting tribute for patients, colleagues, friends, and others may be ordered free of charge. Or, call 800-622-6309 to order the pamphlets. Anyone may participate in the program.

FCER is the chiropractic profession’s oldest not-for-profit foundation, serving the profession since 1944. Based in Norwalk, Iowa, FCER has as its mission to “Translate Research into Practice” by granting funds for research and producing practitioner and patient education materials including teleconferences, CDs, books and pamphlets. FCER is developing the profession’s only Evidence-Based Resource Center.
