Norwalk, Iowa—At its annual board meeting, held May 2-7, 2005, the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) voted to donate the considerable sum of $50,000 to the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER). This grant “was recommended by the NBCE Foundation and Executive Committees and approved by the full board,” said Peter D. Ferguson, D.C., in a letter accompanying the donation. “It is my pleasure to be able to provide the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research this grant to be used to further educational research projects on chiropractic.” “Sometimes I wonder if any but a small portion of our profession appreciates what we are trying to do for the profession and the people it serves,” said FCER President Vincent P. Lucido, D.C. “I am appreciative of the critical minority who are aware and who do value what FCER is attempting to do.” In 2004, NBCE was awarded the A. W. Schwietert Award from FCER. Named in honor of Arthur W. Schwietert, D.C., a forward-thinking South Dakota doctor who recognized the need for professional research, the award is presented to state and national associations that are similarly forward-thinking. “I realize that this generosity is result of careful consideration by your board,” added Dr. Lucido, “Be assured that this is a grant that will never be taken for granted.” For more information on NBCE, please go to www.nbce.org.
