FCER Leadership Goes on the Road to Highlight Foundation’s New Direction With a strong message highlighting new strategic initiatives, Charles R. Herring, DC, president of the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER), has taken to the road with presentations at recent state chiropractic association conventions. Dr. Herring spoke to members of the Virginia Chiropractic Association and Kansas Chiropractic Association about FCER’s new direction including the Evidence-Based Resource Center and State of Research program. His next presentation about these initiatives and more will be at November’s annual meeting of the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA) in Nashville, Tennessee. “As a profession, we need to better communicate with the insurance industry to support the need for care,” Dr. Herring said. “My emphasis at these presentations centers on the fact that most of FCER’s new emphasis, including these new programs, revolves around the exchange of ideas and solutions among clinicians relating to evidence-based care, supported by relevant research. Both the Evidence-Based Resource Center and State of Research initiative are being developed to encourage a healthy exchange of research-related information. FCER needs the financial support of the profession to assure the success of these programs,” he added. FCER’s Evidence-Based Resource Center will include DCConsultSM, the new web site, something the day-to-day practitioner can access for patient care information, discussion on the latest research and how it translates into practice, a pathway to more detailed research articles and commentaries and active links to other databases that have a related theme such as in the areas of nutrition, herbs, exercise and fitness and so on. DCConsult will be available by subscription during the first quarter 2008. Dr. Herring demonstrates a prototype of the site during his presentation. For the State of Research program, FCER’s own State of Research Committee members are working with state associations’ newly appointed Research Committees to assist clinicians in using validated evidence that will result in the best patient care and outcomes, and to assure that the clinician can scientifically defend the treatment provided when working with evidence-based payer requirements. Organizations wishing to schedule a presentation by Dr. Herring should call FCER at 800-622-6309, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday. FCER is the chiropractic profession’s oldest not-for-profit foundation, serving the profession since 1944. Based in Norwalk, Iowa, FCER has as its mission to “Translate Research into Practice” by granting funds for research and producing practitioner and patient education materials including teleconferences, CDs, books and pamphlets. FCER is developing the profession’s only Evidence-Based Resource Center. -30- |
