FCER Announces Changes in Staff and Board Appointments

Norwalk, Iowa—Throughout its history, the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER) has made changes to meet the greater needs and wants of the chiropractic profession. Recognizing that the profession is changing, coupled with the wisdom of maximizing resources while minimizing expenses, the FCER Board of Trustees commissioned an extensive review of FCER’s position within the profession by an external source that specializes in organizational realignment.

In addition to exciting changes, like the construction of the Evidence-Based Chiropractic Resource Center (EB-CRC), FCER has had to make some difficult changes. One painful change for FCER’s Board and staff, was the closing of the Brookline, Massachusetts office and the elimination of the position of Director of Research. “While it is always troublesome to make changes in an organization or business, it is actually painful to eliminate positions because that impacts people and those whom we consider to be family,” said FCER Vice President, George B. McClelland, DC. “That is the process that FCER has had to go through in its recent strategic decision to eliminate the Director of Research position. Dr. Anthony Rosner has been a knowledgeable ally and willing chiropractic advocate. We will miss Tony and his wife, Ruth. They have been an integral part of FCER for the last 15 years.”

The Foundation’s Grants and Fellowship programs will now be managed more cost effectively by the FCER Research Committee, chaired by former FCER Fellow and current Board member Reed B. Phillips, D.C., Ph.D.

Aiding Dr. Phillips in the communication with applicants and organization of information will be Robin R. Merrifield, who will assume the role of Director of Education. This redefined position now includes the Foundation’s communications, conference and workshop planning, and providing staff assistance to the Research Committee. All correspondence that would have been directed to the Director of Research may now be addressed to Robin Merrifield at 380 Wright Rd, Norwalk, IA 50211 or you may reach her by email FCEREDIT@aol.com.

The final change in staffing is the formal appointment of DeAnna Beck, CAE, to Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. Though she has long been acting in this capacity, the position has now been formalized and the title takes effective immediately.

In addition to changes in staff, the FCER Board of Trustees voted to expand the size of its board to make it more inclusive to the stakeholders FCER serves. Board members have also renewed its commitment to personal involvement in the operations and function of the Foundation. Correspondence with Board members is welcome and letters may be addressed to the FCER headquarters office or mailed to FCER@fcer.org for distribution to the appropriate parties.
