New Workshop to Be Hosted by Washington Association and FCER

A new workshop which includes details on how to communicate with the insurance industry to support the need for care will be held Saturday, December 1, 2007, in Tacoma, Washington. Additionally, the workshop will help attendees understand how to use evidence in their practice, use the web to find literature to support the need for treatment, apply the evidence for better patient care, and know when to administer and how to use evidence to support rehabilitation services. The workshop is co-hosted by the Washington State Chiropractic Association (WSCA) and the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research (FCER), and is part of the Translating Research into Practice (TRIP) Workshop program FCER offers to state associations. The all-day workshop, which can earn attendees up to 7.5 hours of continuing education credit (CEUs), runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a break for lunch.

“This new workshop is designed not as a series of classroom lectures, rather it is a series of discussions between presenters and attendees,” Charles R. Herring, DC, FCER President, said. “This format allows for an excellent exchange of ideas and solutions between clinicians and the presenters, resulting in relevant, ‘real world’ information which, going forward, can be incorporated into their practices,” Dr. Herring added.

The workshop program includes:

  • An introduction highlighting “What Evidence-Based Practice Is and Is Not?

  • Dwain Daniel, DC – “Finding the Evidence: Searching the Manual, Alternative and Natural Therapy Index System (MANTISTM) Database Effectively

  • Larry Wyatt, DC – “Applying the Evidence for Better Patient Care

  • Stephen M. Perle, DC, MS – “Using Rehabilitation Evidence in Practice,” and,

  • Charles R. Herring, DC – “Communicating with Insurance Companies: Using Evidence to Make Your Case

“Workshop attendees will be able to find and apply research to improve patient outcomes, support reimbursements, and to better communicate with patients and colleagues from other disciplines,” Robin Merrifield, FCER Director of Education, said. “The workshop is designed to help the practitioner make the application of research in practice an everyday occurrence,” she added.

Early registration fee is $179 for an active WSCA or FCER Member; non-Members pay $199. Staff member’s fee is $35 if accompanying a registered DC; $50 if attending alone. At-the-door registration fee is $25 additional. Contact the WSCA at 206-878-6055 or 800-824-4918 for additional information or to register for the workshop. For the registration form click here.

The Washington State Chiropractic Association (WSCA) is Washington’s only professional organization representing doctors of chiropractic. Established in 1991, WSCA has been growing strong ever since with doctors from across the entire state joining forces to protect, promote and improve the chiropractic profession for a strong and healthy future for all.

FCER is the chiropractic profession’s oldest not-for-profit foundation, serving the profession since 1944. FCER is based in Norwalk, Iowa, and has as its mission to “Translate Research into Practice” by granting funds for research and producing practitioner and patient education materials including teleconferences, CDs, books, and pamphlets. FCER is developing the profession’s only Evidence-Based Resource Center.
