  1. POLICIES:

FCER's Board of Trustees has established the following policies with regard to the Fellowship Program:

  1. Priority will be given to applicants pursuing the doctorate degree [e.g. Ph.D., D.Sc., Dr. P.H.] or Masters of Public Health degree. Other Masters degree candidates may be considered for fellowship support contingent upon the availability of funds.

  2. Priority will be given to applicants enrolled in graduate programs which emphasize clinical research training. Students in programs whose primary objective is clinical training for a professional non-research [e.g. M.D. degree] will not be considered for fellowship support.

  3. Priority will be given to applicants who are full-time students. Part-time students may be considered for support contingent upon the availability of funds.

  4. Fellowship support will be limited to a maximum of $10,000 per year for full-time students and $6,000 per year for part-time students. Full-time students will be eligible for 4 years of support; part-time students will receive a maximum of 5 years of support. The maximum amount a student can receive in a fellowship award is $30,000.

  5. Fellowship awardees may apply for renewal (continuation) of support. Continuation applications must be supported by official documentation of successful progress in the program of studies and good standing in the sponsoring institution.

  6. Only 3 categories of support are appropriate:

    1. Tuition, fees, and books.

    2. Dissertation or thesis expenses.

    3. Basic living expenses, including the following:
  1. Rent or dormitory expenses [mortgage expenses limited to $500 per month].

  2. Food.

  3. Medical expenses and medical insurance.

  4. Transportations expenses [not to exceed $150 per month].

  5. Journal subscriptions and fees for memberships in professional associations [not to exceed $1000 per year, with costs of travel to conferences not allowed].

  1. APPLICATION INFORMATION:

  1. Date of Submission and Board Consideration:

The application deadline for the FCER Fellowship is March 1. Applications and all supporting documents [i.e., letters of recommendation and transcripts] must be received by FCER by this date. E-mail the completed application to FCER@FCER.org and either scan in any additional documents and e-mail to FCER@FCER.org (along with completed application) or mail to address below.

Applications received by March 1 are eligible for funding consideration by the FCER Board of Trustees at their annual meeting, normally held in the summer months. Announcement of awards is made within 2 weeks of the funding decision.

  1. Application Review:

Upon receipt by FCER, applications are reviewed for completeness by FCER's Director of Education, who may request additional information or clarification of information received. Applications are then reviewed by FCER's Education Committee with an evaluation of the application with regard to FCER's funding availability and priorities.

All documentation is submitted to FCER's Board of Trustees for final action. The Board makes final decisions based upon the Education Committee's recommendations, monies available, and overall funding priorities.

  1. Continuation Application:

Continuation applications are forwarded to current Fellows in January of each year, at least 6 weeks prior to the application deadline. Fellows wishing earlier receipt of continuation applications should request them from FCER's Director of Education.
