THE IMPACT OF CHIROPRACTIC RESEARCH
Due to the impact of scientific research, the chiropractic profession has seen advances
once deemed impossible. The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) guideline
for Acute Low Back Problems in Adults recommended spinal manipulation for low-back pain;
federal grants for chiropractic research are a reality; the Department of Defense formed a
committee to introduce chiropractic services into the U.S. military; political victories
are being won on the federal, state, and local levels; some managed care organizations are
beginning to recognize chiropractors as gatekeepers, and there is an ever-growing public
awareness of the benefits of chiropractic care. Without the high caliber of research
endorsed and nurtured by FCER, none of these triumphs would have occurred.
FCER has provided chiropractic
advocates with the research-based ammunition that has brought about
positive change. Without the high caliber cost-effectiveness,
efficacy, and patient satisfaction studies funded by FCER, the
ongoing battle to secure chiropractics rightful place in the
health care system would be doomed to failure.
FCERs dedication to excellence
in research has earned the ongoing financial support of the American
Chiropractic Association (ACA), NCMIC Group, many state chiropractic
organizations, companies who deal in chiropractic products and
supplies, and thousands of Doctors of Chiropractic worldwide.
